The Bundesliga is one of the biggest leagues in the world, but it goes on a winter break. My challenge was, after six weeks of no football, to get people excited again. To do this, I created 18 to Win – a social media event that would tell fans that the Bundesliga was back. It started by recording 18 penalty shootouts over the winter break and then taking to social media to challenge fans to guess who was going to score – only using emojis. All 18 teams of the Bundesliga took part, making it the largest penalty shoot out ever. Not only did it smash engagement targets it also picked up a handful of awards, including a Clio Award for Best Social Media and was shortlisted for BT Sports Awards for International Marketing Campaign of the Year.
